2020/2021 Metropolitan Caloundra Awards of Excellence

On Saturday 5th of June Metropolitan Caloundra hosted our Annual Dinner & Awards Night.

JJ BETTS TROPHY FOR MOST PATROL HOURS
After J.J. Betts – a foundation Member of the Club. First awarded 1949-50. The Bronze member completing the most hours on rostered, voluntary and / or substitute patrols at Kings Beach during the current patrol season.

CLIFF CROUGHAN AWARD FOR BEST PATROL TEAM
After Cliff Croughan – a foundation Member of the Club and first Chief Surf Instructor. First awarded 1998-99. Alternative citation since 2007-08 - “All Stars Patrol Team”.

THE MET-CALOUNDRA OLD BOYS’ TROPHY FOR MOST EFFICIENT PATROL CAPTAIN
Presented by the Club Old Boys’ Association. First awarded 1998-99.
The Patrol Captain best:

• demonstrating exceptional leadership during the season and leading by example

• achieving teamwork and promoting continued learning within their patrol team

• showing initiative and dedication to improving patrol services

• performing exceptionally under adverse circumstances

• leading a patrol team with a high rate of patrol compliance.

THE MOST PROFICIENT SENIOR LIFESAVER
First awarded 1986-87. The Active Senior who has shown exceptional enthusiasm, participation and dedication in all aspects of lifesaving related activities. Having gone above and beyond in their duties as an active lifesaver.

THE MOST PROFICIENT CADET LIFESAVER
First awarded 1986-87. The Cadet/under 15 who has shown exceptional enthusiasm, participation and dedication in all aspects of lifesaving related activities. Having gone above and beyond in their duties as an active lifesaver.

THE MOST PROFICIENT JUNIOR LIFESAVER
First awarded 1986-87. The Active Junior (15-18years) who has shown exceptional enthusiasm, participation and dedication in all aspects of lifesaving related activities. Having gone above and beyond in their duties as an active lifesaver.

THE MOST PROFICIENT YOUNG LIFESAVER
First awarded 2018-19. The Lifesaver (18-21 years) who has shown exceptional enthusiasm, participation and dedication in all aspects of lifesaving related activities. Having gone above and beyond in their duties as an active lifesaver.

CLUB CAPTAIN’S TROPHY FOR BEST NEW MEMBER
First awarded 1984-95. A financial, proficient and active member joining in the current season and completing club patrol and other obligations with distinction and without prejudice Committed to personal development for the benefit of the Club and showing promise of a great future.

TRAINING OFFICER OF THE YEAR
First awarded 2005-06. The Training Officer most successfully providing services to the club in their capacity as a trainer. Must be currently active and proficient as a qualified trainer.

First awarded 2005-06. The Assessor most successfully providing services to the club in their capacity as an assessor. Must be currently active and proficient as a qualified assessor.

DES DWYER TROPHY FOR THE BEST AND FAIREST CARNIVAL COMPETITOR
Presented by Des Dwyer OAM – past Life Governor, Club President, competitor and coach. First awarded 1995-96. The club competitor who, whilst contributing competition points to the club’s overall points score, showed team spirit, fair play, co-operation and upheld the values of the club at all carnivals.

COLIN ROUGHSEDGE TROPHY FOR MOST OUTSTANDING CARNIVAL COMPETITOR
Presented by Colin Roughsedge – Life Member and outstanding Masters competitor. First awarded 1994-95. The competitor displaying the most outstanding performances at carnivals whilst contributing a significant number of points to the club’s overall points score. This competitor is dedicated to training and surf sports development and may also have represented the club at higher levels e.g. representative teams.

JOHN PHILLIPS MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR MOST VALUABLE CARNIVAL OFFICIAL
In memory of John ‘Fruity’ Phillips, surf boat official. First awarded 2006-07. Recognising those members who were appointed Surf Officials at carnivals; and/or received their Surf Officials Accreditation during the current season.

YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
First awarded 2018-19. The youth competitor (U17 and U19 years) displaying the most outstanding performances at carnivals whilst contributing a significant number of points to the club’s overall points score. This competitor is dedicated to training and surf sports development and may also have represented the club at higher levels e.g. representative teams.

JACK SPENDER AWARD FOR MOST VALUABLE OFFICE BEARER
Presented by Jack Spender OBE OStJ – past Life Governor, Club President, administrator and competitor. First awarded 1996-97. The member holding an elected position within the club who has been the most successful in helping the club meet its objectives and goals related to their area of responsibility. A highly efficient member who has been invaluable to the operation of the club.

MOST IMPROVED MEMBER
First awarded 1994-95. Having been a member for more than one year; showing the most significant improvement in performance, effort and/ or dedication toward their chosen surf lifesaving activity or across a number of areas of the club.

STANLEY LUCAS MEMORIAL SHIELD - SURF APPEALS TROPHY
After Stan Lucas – indefatigable community fundraiser in the 1980’s and 1990’s. First awarded 1994-95. The member who contributed the most time for the highest return in all club fundraising activities.

First awarded 1969-70. The member creating the most angst, in a constructive way, for the betterment of the club during the season.

In memory of Alton Tailford – Life Member, past Club President, Secretary and Treasurer. First awarded 1989-90. Awarded to a member in recognition of their innovative approach and relentless dedication to achieving club objectives and goals, with their work ensuring an outstanding increase in performance, efficiency, results and/or club well-being.
