We have a wet weekend forecast over at Kings Beach, and wild weather makes the water even more unpredictable. 🌧️🌊

Wind & rain makes visibility extremely low for our hardworking lifesavers, and this is where the famous Red & Yellow flags come in handy! ❤️💛

By swimming between the flags, you're making it much easier for lifesavers to keep an eye on you and keep you safe 👀. Once you're outside of the flags, you're outside their field of focus - that's when a simple swim in the sea could become life-threatening.

So, this weekend, if you're thinking of embracing the wild weather and going for a dip, HELP OUR LIFESAVERS HELP YOU!

Always swim between the flags. 🚩

Did you know. . . 🤔💭

• ❤️Women in Queensland were participating in lifesaving as early as the 1910’s, permitted to compete in minor competitions
• ❤️ Edie Kieft anonymously completed her Bronze Medallion training in 1923 at the age of 16 - but was denied the award after she was discovered to be female. She would not receive her Bronze Medallion until 1991, at the age of 84.
• ❤️ In 1980, SLSA finally allowed women to officially gain their Bronze Medallion and become active patrolling members
• ❤️ In 1984, Thora Hunt became Metropolitan Caloundra's first female SLS Life Member
• ❤️In 2020, SLSA celebrated 40 years since women were allowed to patrol, recognising decades of women’s contributions to lifesaving
• ❤️ In 2025, SLSQ advanced gender equality with the SLSQ Gender Equity Plan, which addressed barriers women face in leadership, governance, and operational roles with surf lifesaving.

Now, women represent nearly 50% of all Queensland Surf Lifesaving memberships, making them a vital element of keeping our beaches safe. 🏄‍♀️🏊‍♀️

But this doesn’t mean we have to stop raising awareness for women who, in 2026, are STILL facing underrepresentation in leadership roles, despite the ever-growing number of female SLS members. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

For this International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the leaps and bounds women have made in Surf Lifesaving, as well as recognising the work that still needs to be done for equality. 🥳💪

Metropolitan Caloundra’s Patrol Captain Eliza Dreves has been annually hosting the Women’s Patrol on the 8th March since 2020, where an all-female team of lifesavers protect our beach goers while highlighting the importance of women in Lifesaving. 🩵🤍❤️

We can’t wait to celebrate this important day on Sunday 8th March! Catch you on the beach 🌊🌸
